As a direct extension of our video behavior analysis work, SET has developed an intelligent driver monitoring system for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Our system uses dash mounted video cameras to automatically monitor, analyze, and archive videos of a driver’s gaze activities for the purpose of assessing dangerous driving behaviors. Among other capabilities, the Driver at a Glance™ system is able to automatically determine the beginning and end of a gazing activity, and index the corresponding video sequence by the functional area of interest, duration, and direction of gaze. Unlike the cumbersome manual system used today, Driver at a Glance™ employs advanced machine vision techniques to perform its video analysis and indexing tasks at dramatically improved speeds and accuracy levels.
