Dr. Tom Burns co-founded and serves as CEO and Chairman of SET Corporation, an R&D and Product company specializing in the
creation and commercialization of smart information technologies that make our society safer, better informed, and more productive.
Under Tom’s leadership, SET has grown without external investment to 70 employees and $20M in annual revenue, enjoying five years
of sustained profitability. Prior to founding SET, Tom co-founded and served as COO of ObjectVideo Inc., a venture capital-backed
leader in smart video solutions for commercial and military security applications. Tom joined ObjectVideo from DARPA, where he
pioneered the development of model-based signal and image exploitation technologies, building on his experiences directing
Computer Vision research as a United Stated Air Force Officer at AFRL. While assigned to AFRL, Tom led the Lab’s premiere
Automatic Target Recognition program, receiving AFRL’s prestigious Peter R. Murray Program Manager of the Year award. Tom is
co-inventor of patents on video and radar technology, and has published numerous refereed papers in areas as diverse as
electro-optics and wavelet mathematics. He currently sits on the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Sensors and
Communications for Special Operations, serves as a member of the Washington D.C. Capital Executive Board, and sits on the Board of
Directors of Yakabod, Inc., a knowledge-management product company. Tom received a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering and a
B.A. Degree in Philosophy from The Ohio State University, and an M.S. Degree and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology.
Dr. Bob Douglass co-founded SET Corporation, where he serves as Chief Technology Officer and Director of the Sensors and Signal
Processing Division. Prior to joining SET, Bob co-founded and served as CEO and Chairman of ObjectVideo, Inc., a company dedicated
to the commercialization of computer vision technology for video internet and security markets. Bob joined ObjectVideo from DARPA,
where as an Assistant Office Director he managed $130M annually in information system programs. Bob joined DARPA from Sarcos Inc.,
where he played a key role in the 3-D simulation of the robotic dinosaurs for Universal Studio’s Jurassic Park theme ride. Previously
at Lockheed-Martin’s Astronautics Division, Bob held P&L responsibility for a group developing intelligent robots and image exploitation
applications using high-performance computers. Bob served as a professor of computer science at the University of Virginia, and held a
postdoctoral appointment in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at University College London. He is the co-inventor of patents on
radar, simulation, and video technology. He co-edited a book on parallel computation and has authored numerous technical reports and
papers. He has served on panels for the National Academy of Sciences and the Defense Science Board, and chaired the oversight committee
for surveillance research at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. Bob earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, magna cum laude from Princeton
University. He holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin in computer sciences with a minor in neuro-science.
Mr. Bruce Deal is a co-Founder and Senior Vice President of SET Corporation. Prior to founding SET, he served as the Chief Technology
Officer of Veridian Systems Division, managing the intellectual property portfolio and IR&D projects of a $400M defense technology
business. Before re-joining industry, Bruce was the Assistant Deputy Undersecretary of Defense (Concept Development) of the DoD.
There he sponsored multiple Advanced Concept Technology Demonstrations (ACTDs), including Semi-Automated Image Processing (SAIP),
Precision Targeting Identification, and Combat Identification. Prior industrial experience includes SAIC and Northrop. Bruce has
more than 27 years of experience with defense issues, program and line management, system and software architectures, munition
development programs, real time image processing systems, and automatic target recognizers. He has designed, constructed, and
tested real time targeting and control systems in both the field and laboratory. Bruce holds B.S. degrees in Biological Science
and Electrical Engineering, and an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Irvine.
Dr. Rafael Alonso joined SET Corporation in January 2006, where he serves as Senior Vice President and Director of SET's
Information Systems and Security Division. Prior to joining SET Corporation, Rafael was part of the management staff at Sarnoff Corporation.
As Technical Director of Sarnoff' Convergence Laboratory, Rafael was responsible for overseeing a staff of 40 employees with
more than $10 million of externally funded research projects in a number of areas including Multimedia Storage and Databases
Systems, Web Information Systems, Machine Learning and User Modeling, Video Quality, Video Compression, Digital Cinema, and
Targeted Advertising. Prior to joining Sarnoff, Rafael co-founded the Matsushita Information Technology Laboratory in
Princeton, N.J., where he served in various roles including Associate Director and Senior Scientist. At MITL, Rafael developed
leading edge Information and Video Systems for Panasonic. Rafael started his career as an Assistant Professor in the Computer
Science Department of Princeton University, where he graduated several students, and co-developed new courses in database
technology and distributed systems. Rafael has published over 50 scientific papers in information and knowledge management
topics. Rafael obtained his B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science from New York University, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering
from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from U.C. Berkeley.
Dr. Thomas Strat is Senior Vice President and Director of SET’s Image and Video Understanding Division. Tom joined SET from DARPA’s Information
Exploitation Office, where he served as Program Manager for VIVID, which is concerned with automated analysis of airborne video to
support precision strike operations; Combat Zones That See, which automates the analysis of video from a large network of ground-based
cameras to track individual vehicles across an urban battlefield, and UrbanScape, which provides automated capture and holographic
display of 3D models of urban areas. Tom also served as Deputy Director of DARPA’s Grand Challenge for Autonomous Ground Vehicles.
Prior to joining DARPA, Tom was co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of ObjectVideo, Inc., a leading supplier of intelligent
video surveillance systems. Tom spent 13 years as a research scientist and project leader at the SRI Artificial Intelligence Center,
where he designed and implemented computer vision, robotic, and evidential reasoning systems. Tom has published more than 100
scientific papers and has authored or edited several books on computer vision. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering
and Computer Science from M.I.T., and the Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University.
Dr. Rama Chellappa is a Senior Vice President of SET Corporation. Prior to joining SET, Dr. Chellapa was CEO and Founder of Image Corp.,
a developer of highly advanced image and video technology. Rama is currently Minta Martin Professor in the College of Engineering at the
University of Maryland, where he has made many pioneering contributions to image and video understanding, pattern recognition and signal
and image processing. Rama has served as Principal Investigator on numerous Department of Defense programs funded by DARPA, ONR, AFOSR,
ARO and ARL and NSF. And until recently, he was the Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine
Intelligence and Vice-President of IEEE Signal Processing Society. Rama’s contributions to the field of computer vision have been
recognized through numerous awards, including the NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award, IBM Faculty Development Award, Distinguished
Scholar-Teacher Award, Distinguished Faculty Research Fellow Award and a Technical Achievement Award from IEEE Signal Processing Society.
Rama is a Fellow of IEEE and IAPR, and a Golden Core Member of the IEEE Computer Society.
Mr. Don Olender is Chief Financial Officer of SET Corporation. Prior to joining SET, Don served as President of Olender and Associates,
a Financial Consulting firm providing outsourced CFO services to high tech start-up companies. Don founded Olender and Associates after
serving as CFO of Prominence Networks, and Skyway Partners, which he joined after leaving Sarnoff Corporation where he served as Controller
for thirteen years. During his tenure at Sarnoff, Don was instrumental in launching 10 high-tech subsidiaries, achieving $200+ million
in total market value and transitioning Sarnoff Corporation from a cost center to a profitable corporation. Don also has significant
experience in establishing international businesses by starting up subsidiaries in Europe and the Far East and creating business systems,
transfer pricing, forward exchange contracts and tax deferral techniques for over 30 international subsidiaries for Fortune 500 companies
such as Rorer Group and Cooper Technicon. Don’s finance experience includes business modeling and forecasting, creative financing techniques,
tax planning, financial reporting, government accounting and business systems. Don commenced his accounting experience with Deloitte Touche
and is an active Certified Public Accountant holding a B.S. in Accounting from Drexel University. Don is a member of the American Institute
of Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Accountants.
